Mail-in micro-soldering for repair shops
Micro-soldering is board-level repair under a microscope: finding and replacing the exact component, connector or trace that failed, instead of replacing the board or writing the device off. Soldersector runs that bench by post for UK trade customers — fixed prices, photo evidence, tracked post both ways.
Jobs that need the microscope
- HDMI, USB-C and charging-port replacement
- Torn pads and lifted traces — including from earlier repairs
- Connector and FPC socket damage
- BGA and chip-level rework, reballing and reflow
- Backlight and no-image circuits
- Board flex and impact damage to fine traces
These are the jobs that stop at most benches, not because the shop lacks skill but because it lacks the microscope, the hot-air station, the preheaters and the schematics. Send them to ours instead: open a trade account.
How the bench works
Every job is diagnosed first — the fault is found and the fix confirmed before any soldering starts. The repair itself is done under a microscope with the board supported on a preheater, then the unit is reassembled, bench-tested and photographed for your ticket. If a board cannot be saved, that is a finding too, and the item comes back with the diagnosis written up.
White-label by default
Your customer never hears from us. No Soldersector paperwork goes in the return box, no emails go to them, and we never quote them directly. The repair is your repair; we are the bench behind it.
What it costs
Micro-soldering work is £55 + VAT for the listed service, with a revised quote — sent for your approval — if the damage turns out to be worse. Board-level repairs are £95 + VAT and detailed here.
Micro-soldering questions
What is micro-soldering?
Micro-soldering is board-level repair under a microscope: finding and replacing the exact component, connector or trace that failed on a device's main circuit board. It is the work most repair shops don't have the microscope, hot-air station and schematics for.
What jobs need micro-soldering?
Torn pads and lifted traces, HDMI and USB-C port replacement, charging-port and connector swaps, BGA and chip-level rework, backlight circuits, and damage left behind by a previous repair. If it is smaller than a parts swap, it is micro-soldering.
Can you repair a board someone else has already damaged?
Usually, yes — boards with torn pads or traces from earlier repairs come to us regularly. We quote what is recoverable before working on it, and we send photos of what we found so you can show your customer.
How much does micro-soldering cost?
Micro-soldering work is a fixed £55 + VAT for the listed service, with the repair quoted before any paid work if the damage is worse. Diagnosis is £35 + VAT, waived when the repair goes ahead.
Does the customer know the board was repaired elsewhere?
Only if you tell them. We work white-label behind your bench: your customer sees your branding and your workmanship statement, and we never contact them.
