MacBook Air logic board repair for the trade
MacBook Airs fail differently to Pros. No fans means thermal stress shows up in different places, and the thin chassis makes port and liquid damage common. Either way, the repair path is the same: component-level work on the original board, at a fixed price, for UK trade customers only.

What fails on MacBook Air boards
- Completely dead after charging problems: the Air's single port carries everything, so port faults hit harder
- Charging faults: USB-C port damage, the power controller behind it, or the charging circuit itself
- Liquid damage: spills reach the board fast in a fanless, tightly packed chassis
- No backlight or no image: the board side of a black screen, often a fuse or driver rather than the panel
- Storage faults: "no bootable device" messages on machines whose SSD is soldered to the board
- Damage from a drop or a previous repair: torn pads, cracked joints, bent chassis pressuring the board
Apple Silicon and Intel Airs, both eras
Intel-era Airs (2013–2020) and the M-series machines that followed are different boards with different failure modes, and both are regulars at the bench. On Apple Silicon machines, the storage is soldered and encrypted by design, which is exactly why fixing the board is usually the way the customer's data comes back. That path is spelled out in data from a dead laptop.
What to check before you post it
Start with MacBook won't turn on for no-power jobs, and MacBook not charging for port and charging faults. Ten minutes of triage that tells you (and the customer) what the job really is. Then send the complete machine; it is tested against a real battery, port and display before it goes back.
MacBook Air questions
Do you take both Intel and M-series MacBook Airs?
Yes. Both eras are regulars at the bench. They are different boards with different failure modes, repaired at the same fixed price.
What usually fails on a MacBook Air?
Charging and port faults (single-port machines carry everything through one connector), liquid damage in the tight chassis, backlight faults and soldered-storage problems. The Air handles heat well but spills badly.
How much does the repair cost?
£120 + VAT fixed, post both ways and a 12-month warranty included, or £180 + VAT in the priority slot. Diagnosis is £35 + VAT, waived when the repair goes ahead.
Can you recover data from a dead MacBook Air?
Usually by repairing the board so the machine boots. On soldered-storage Airs that is the recovery path. The 'data from a dead laptop' guide covers the full picture.
