HP Spectre and ZBook board repair
HP's premium range has two personalities, and the board work respects the difference. Spectres are thin ultrabooks (USB-C power delivery, soldered memory, tight tolerances. ZBooks are workstations) bigger cooling, serviceable parts, and often removable storage that makes data conversations easy. Both use the same fixed-price bench: component-level repair, £120 + VAT, post both ways included.

- Priority slot
- £180 + VAT: diagnosed in 1 working day, back within 2

What we fix on Spectre and ZBook boards
- Not charging: USB-C PD paths on Spectres, barrel and dock paths on ZBooks
- No power: charging circuits and rail faults measured in order
- Port damage: USB-C and Thunderbolt connectors replaced, pads rebuilt
- Liquid damage: corrosion cleaned and components replaced
- No backlight or no image: the board side of a black screen
- Previous-repair damage from earlier bench visits
The workstation advantage
ZBooks are among the friendlier machines on this bench for one reason worth telling shops: their storage is usually removable, so if the evidence matters, the data question is often answered by reading the drive. Subject to the encryption caveats in BitLocker keys, explained. Spectres are the opposite: soldered storage, and the board is the data path, which is the dead-laptop playbook in full.
What to check before you post it
The charging triage for the majority; the backlight test before any screen is sold; and for liquid history, the first-hour discipline (even late) decides how much the spill ends up costing.
Spectre and ZBook questions
Spectre or ZBook. Do you take both?
Yes. Two different personalities (thin ultrabook and workstation) on the same fixed-price bench.
Is the data recoverable from a ZBook?
Usually the easier story: ZBook storage is often removable, so the drive reads independently. Subject to the usual BitLocker caveats. Spectres are the opposite: soldered storage, where board repair is the recovery path.
My Spectre won't charge. Worth repairing?
Usually yes: the charging triage separates port from circuit, and either way it is the fixed £120 + VAT repair against the replacement cost of the machine.
How much does the repair cost?
£120 + VAT fixed (post both ways and a 12-month warranty included) or £180 + VAT in the priority slot. Diagnosis is £35 + VAT and is waived when the repair goes ahead.
