Dell XPS board repair

XPS machines are ultrabooks through and through: thin, tightly packed, and carrying everything over USB-C power delivery. That design is lovely until the power path fails, then the port, the PD circuitry and the charging circuit behind them all live on the board. Which is exactly the kind of fault this bench fixes at component level, at one fixed price.

What we fix on XPS boards

Two facts for your quote

Storage is usually removable NVMe: a good thing for data conversations, subject to the encryption caveats in BitLocker keys, explained. RAM is soldered on most models, which means a memory fault is board work or nothing, and it is worth saying so before anyone promises a RAM upgrade that does not exist.

What to check before you post it

Start with the charging triage for the majority of XPS jobs; the storage triage if the machine boots but cannot find its drive; and the backlight test before anyone sells a screen.

Dell XPS questions

Which XPS models do you take?

13, 14, 15 and 17, every generation. The same fixed price across the range.

My XPS won't charge. Port or board?

The charging triage settles it: known-good charger on every port, then the meter reading. On XPS machines the port, its PD controller and the charging circuit are one path on the board, and that is how they are tested and repaired.

Can you upgrade the RAM while you are in there?

Most XPS machines have soldered memory. There is nothing to upgrade. Where a machine does have socketed memory and the ticket asks, it is a standard parts job. Worth saying before anyone promises an upgrade that does not exist.

How much does the repair cost?

£120 + VAT fixed (post both ways and a 12-month warranty included) or £180 + VAT in the priority slot. Diagnosis is £35 + VAT and is waived when the repair goes ahead.
